Wood Care Guide

Care for Solid Wood, Naturally

Solid wood is a natural material. Its grain, tone, and character can develop over time, making every piece unique. Simple, consistent care will help protect its finish and preserve its beauty for years.

Routine Cleaning

  • Dust regularly with a clean, soft, dry microfiber cloth.
  • For light cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth and wipe in the direction of the grain.
  • Dry the surface immediately with a separate soft cloth.
  • Do not allow water to remain on the wood.

What to Avoid

  • Abrasive pads, hard brushes, and rough cloths.
  • Bleach, ammonia, strong detergents, and silicone-heavy sprays.
  • Excess water, steam cleaners, and soaking the surface.
  • Placing very hot or wet objects directly on furniture.
  • Dragging sharp or heavy objects across the finish.

Sunlight, Heat, and Humidity

Wood naturally responds to its environment. Protect furniture and doors from prolonged direct sunlight, extreme heat, and sudden changes in humidity. Use curtains or blinds where strong sunlight falls on the same area every day, and keep indoor pieces away from radiators, heaters, and air-conditioning vents.

Spills and Marks

Blot spills immediately with a clean, absorbent cloth. Do not rub aggressively. For stubborn marks, contact Six Bros Crafts before applying polish, oil, wax, stain remover, or a household cleaning product, as the correct treatment depends on the wood and finish.

Protecting Furniture

  • Use coasters, placemats, and felt pads under objects.
  • Lift items instead of sliding them.
  • Rotate decorative objects occasionally to allow the surface to age evenly.
  • Check and tighten suitable hardware periodically without overtightening.

Caring for Solid Wood Doors

  • Keep the door surface and edges dry.
  • Clean around handles and frequently touched areas with a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dry immediately.
  • Avoid hanging excessive weight from handles or the top edge.
  • If movement or alignment changes, have the hinges and installation checked before forcing the door.

Professional Maintenance

Natural finishes may benefit from periodic professional maintenance, but the method and timing depend on the wood species, finish, climate, and use. Before refinishing, sanding, oiling, or waxing your piece, contact us for guidance.
